Exploring unexplored destinations

Welcome…

Postcards from The Intrepid Soul is the go-to website for travellers searching to embrace a new form of luxury – unexplored destinations, genuine connections and pure relaxation!

I’m Heather, an Aussie working in the corporate world but fearlessly following my travel dreams. I have lived in 5 cities across 3 countries and a few years ago, I set out to experience 40 countries before I turned 40. But I didn’t know how I was going to do that from the end of the earth – Australia – with only four weeks of annual leave!

So in 2017 I packed up my busy life and moved halfway across the world out of my comfort zone and into the sandpit – Dubai. The city located only an eight-hour flight from two-thirds of the world’s population.

And now today, not yet 40, I have travelled to 56 countries! Bravely taking the path less travelled, finding beauty in the most unexpected places and searching for the world’s most beautiful pools.

Why postcards?

You are probably wondering why I’ve called my blog, Postcards from The Intrepid Soul?

Well for many of you, postcards may be a dying art. In some destinations today it is easier to find a selfie stick than a decent postcard! Social media has also taken over the need to send personalised postcards to loved ones back home.

But people love receiving handwritten musings from faraway lands. There is something personal in the process of writing and receiving a postcard. And my mum was the number one postcard fan!

Although my mum never enjoyed travel – due to her fear of flying and leaving the comfort of her surrounds – she was the inspiration for many of my journeys. From providing suggestions on where I should visit, to cutting out clippings on the newest and hottest destinations. Every time we said our goodbyes at the airport, her only request was to send a postcard!

As a result, postcards became a family tradition. My brother was much better at sending postcards home. I usually would collect them and hand them over on my return.

Sadly, five months after moving to Dubai my mother passed away. And my coping mechanism was to travel.

Postcards from The Intrepid Soul is dedicated to my mum. But importantly written for you – as postcards of my uncensored thoughts, honest reflections and beautiful images from my intrepid travels around the world.

Enjoy!
