If you haven’t been on safari yet, then get out the map and start planning. Kenya is full of beautiful national parks. The abundance of wildlife is something I will never forget. So sit back, relax. Let me take you on a photo journey to my favourite spots in Kenya to view the Big 5. Before even leaving the hotel, there was a whole family of Black-faced Vervet Monkeys hanging around the pool. Our first visit was the Masai Mara National Reserve. The most famous safari park in Kenya with animals as far as the eye can see. Did you know, there’s believed to be over 2,500 giraffes in Masai Mara? We were here to view the Big 5. But I was here to see the lions! I saw 13 lions while in Kenya, this was one of the first – and a BIG 5. This beautiful lioness was waking up from a nap as the sunset. She was starting to contemplate what was for dinner. Then not far away, we came across 2 cheetahs. Also getting ready to hunt for dinner as the sun was slowly setting on the horizon. Me being a total dork, standing on the border of Kenya and Tanzania. The Masai Mara crosses over into Tanzania and joins up with the Serengeti. Kenya is to the right of me, Tanzania to the left. Before heading out of the Masai Mara, we found this stunning leopard – and second of the BIG 5. Just strolling through the long grass, literally within 20m of hundreds of wildebeest and zebras. Did you know that a male Cape Buffalo can weigh up to 600kg? No. 3 of the BIG 5 and definitely one you don’t want to get too close to. L ake Nakuru National Park was where we saw our No. 4 of the BIG 5 – the rhino. Lake Nakuru is located on the floor of the Great Rift Valley and is famous for its soda lakes and rhinos. Zebras are everywhere! But I quickly fell in love with them. Their nature was peaceful and they always had their friends back – so cute. Lake Nakura also had lots of monkeys running around. The antics of the babies were my favourite. And our final stop in Kenya was Amboseli National Park. Here we say No. 5 of the BIG 5…well we actually saw elephants in Masai Mara as well but Amboseli is one of the best places in Africa to see herds of elephants up close. And it was spectacular watching the herds trudge towards the water and bath all day long to escape the heat of the sun. Get booking now, Kenya is worth the visit.
