Luxe Stay // Four Seasons Hotel, Baku
The Four Seasons brand is synonymous with luxury. And the Four Seasons Hotel in Baku is elegance with old-world charm.
I first discovered this incredible property on the trusty old Instagram. I knew if I ever visited Baku, the Four Seasons was where I was staying.
Located centrally between the modern city and along the medieval walls of the old town. Only minutes away from the trio of flame-shaped modern towers and steps from the Caspian Sea.
The Arrival
Baku was pleasantly surprising. Arriving into the modern Heydar Aliyev International Airport was not what I was expecting of a country straddling Eastern Europe and Western Asia. The new terminal was opened in 2014 and it felt like being back in Dubai.
It was a short 20-minute drive in to the city from the airport. The city was clean and green. It was also evident why Baku is commonly referred to as Paris meeting Dubai. The city was a stunning mix of grand old and glitzy modern architecture. The sight was a unique fusion to behold.
Arriving at the Four Seasons Hotel was like walking into old charm elegance. Large extraordinary crystal chandeliers, soaring marble pillars and regal furnishings. The foyer is breathtaking.
I arrived too early to check-in, it’s a bit of a habit of mine! But the service was impeccable. I ended up spending some time wandering around the old town, which the hotel backs right onto. Then as soon as the room was ready the front desk called to let me know.
Heading to my room I loved the beautifully painted features that adorned the hallways.
The Room
I booked a Caspian Sea room. It had stunning French doors opening up to a beautiful private balcony. I could see from the Carpet Museum on the right all the way down the harbour front over the park to the left. It would be the perfect spot to be positioned for the Baku F1 Grand Prix.
In true Four Season style, the room was luxurious and comfortable. The bed was huge with comfy soft pillows. The bathroom had an antique style but with modern conveniences. It’s not often you see a television screen built into the mirror so you can check the weather and news while doing your hair.
The Pool
If you have been reading my blog for a little while now, you know I have a passion for swimming in beautiful pools. Well, swimming in this pool felt like being royalty in a large Greek-style bathhouse.
The pool is in a large stone-clad arena with a glass vaulted ceiling. With sunlight streaming in through the glass the whole space had a serene-feel about it. Located at one end of the pool is a hydrotherapy spa to help ease the muscles.
The Day Spa
The Spa is located on the top floor of the hotel. A slice of peace and tranquility. Here I experienced the extremely opulent 24 Karat massage. The treatment uses 24-karat massage oil. Apparently, it’s popular in Hollywood because of its cellulite-fighting and age-reversing qualities. I’m not sure if I lost any cellulite but I certainly felt rejuvenated and just a little more sparkly.
The Food
There are a couple of dining options at the hotel. I chose to enjoy an afternoon of high tea in Zafferano. This light-filled dining room felt like you were sitting in a glasshouse in the back of the garden, overlooking the flowers and shrubbery.
While one morning I decided to have a lazy, in-room breakfast because with the view, why not?
The Four Seasons brand is one of my favourites. There is a consistency across each of their hotels around the world, that makes it feel like you’re coming home. I love how they include a luxurious, local twist to each of their properties.
