Luxe Stays // Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard, London
Soaring 125 metres into the sky The Shard is an architectural icon and Western Europe’s tallest building. With unobstructed views across all of London, you can see why a luxe stay at the Shangri-La Hotel, at The Shard was on my bucket list.
The Arrival
I arrived in London on the Euro Star from Paris. An easy black cab ride to The Shard and I had arrived. Ok, so I was carrying a backpack and was wearing cargo pants and sneakers…no judgement! But I probably should have dressed up a little!
The Shangri-La Hotel only occupies 18 floors of The Shard. The reception is on level 34. Slightly confusing if it wasn’t for the friendly, sharp-dressed doorman, Erol.
As soon as you step out of the elevator you feel connected to the whole city with panoramic skyline views overlooking the River Thames.
The Room
Don’t you hate when you walk into a hotel reception and the views take your breath away. Just to be taken to your room and be totally underwhelmed? Well, this was not one of those times. I had a city view room and could see down the River Thames to Waterloo and all the way back up to Canary Wharf. The verdict….it was spectacular.
The room was spacious, the bed huge and soft. With the views being so amazing, I didn’t want to leave. Typical to the Shangri-La brand, they think of everything and even have a pair of binoculars in the room so you can zoom in on any of the arrays of attractions down below. Like St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Tower of London and City Hall.
The Pool
If you’ve been following me for a little time now, you will know I’m in search of the world’s most luxe pools. So as soon as I had taken in the view, I headed up to Level 52 to check out the infinity Sky Pool. Also known as the highest hotel pool in Western Europe.
It’s like an oasis perched high above the city. A tranquil spot to swim mini-laps or a place to just unwind as you watch the world go by.
The Luxe Stay Experience
True English class with a friendly smile. And again Erol, the doorman….what a gem! He made me feel like I was returning home, such a friendly character.
The Shangri-La is the perfect getaway for a weekend or a special event. Check out their Instagram, @shangrilalondon, for some very cool birthday, proposal and anniversary inspiration!
The Shangri-La Hotel is also centrally located. Just steps from London Bridge tube station where you access the Jubilee and Northern Lines. Seconds from the famous Borough Markets and trendy Bermondsey. And walking distance to Southbank, Tower Bridge, Tower of London and the Tate.
So don’t forget to step outside for a moment and explore what London has to offer.
